You can run snap traps all winter and fresh mice will keep replacing the caught ones, following the scent trails of the last batch. Closing the openings is the fix; trapping just clears the stragglers.

Questions people ask before booking
Usually not. Mice breed year-round indoors with a litter roughly every three weeks, and where one walked in, its scent trail invites the next. That said, a lone wanderer through an open garage door does happen, droppings confined to a single spot is the hopeful sign, and an inspection settles it either way.
Steel wool rusts, shrinks, and leaves the gap open again in a couple of seasons; copper doesn’t corrode, and we back it with sealant so it can’t be pulled out. It’s not the answer for every opening, though. Garage doors need rodent-rated sweeps, and a genuinely crumbling foundation section is a mason’s job, we’ll tell you when it is.
